GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT RADOM DISTRICT


    Radom District is situated in south part of Mazowieckie Voivodship, takes up the area of 1530 sq. km, and is inhabited by over 144 000 people. North part of the district encompass the Nizina Kozienicka, south part - Przedgórze Iłżeckie, and in the central part there is Nizina Radomska.
    From among 13 council units, majority are typical country communes: Gózd, Jastrzębia, Jedlińsk, Jedlnia Letnisko, Kowala, Pionki, Przytyk, Wierzbica, Wolanów, Zakrzew, two of them: Iłża and Skaryszew are urban-country communes and Pionki, where live 20 000 people is urban commune. Inhabitants of town make up merely 22% of the district's community.     Indubitable asset of the district is its location in the center of Radomski subregion - place where strategic communication routes are crossed. Direct vicinity with Radom city, the second largest city after Warsaw in Mazowia, is an extra value of the district. Radom city is significant academic, trade and service center. On the territory of Radomski District there are a lot of valuable nature areas. Many places are known from their recreational and landscape values. The communes: Pionki, Jastrzębia and Jedlnia Letnisko are situated on the land of Puszcza Kozienicka and its protection zone. In Siczki (commune of Jedlnia Letnisko) there is nature reserve with mineral water spring. In commune of Gózd occur stratums of peat which have direct influence for specific microclimate of this region. In the neighbourhood of Iłża there are also attractive forest areas with non-freezing springs.
